PointsBet Enters Deal With WNBA As Authorized Gaming Operator

PointsBet and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBA) are going to be teammates. Today they jointly announced a sports betting partnership that makes PointsBet an Authorized Gaming Operator of the WNBA.

Under terms of the agreement, PointsBet will include the WNBA into their betting platforms and multimedia content. The WNBA will offer branding and sponsorship opportunities for PointsBet.

The deal will increase the visibility of the women’s game, including the Detroit Shock, one of the WNBA’s most successful franchises. The Shock have won three WNBA championships and four conference titles since entering the league as an expansion team in 1998.

The deal represents the first foray into professional women’s sports for PointsBet, who has previously entered into agreements with the NHL, NBC Sports, the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Mammoth (of the National Lacrosse League) as well as several NFL teams as official or authorized gaming partners.

“We are thrilled to align with the WNBA and bring the world-class PointsBet experience to one of the most digitally-engaged fan bases on earth,” said Johnny Aitken, CEO of PointsBet USA, according to PRNewswire. “The WNBA has done a phenomenal job with growing fan engagement, and PointsBet is excited to be a piece of that puzzle moving forward.”

The WNBA was founded in 1996, and serves as the premier professional league for women’s basketball. They operate with 12 teams, and 2021 marks the league’s 25th season. The WNBA has broadcast deals with ESPN, CBS Radio, and Turner Sports Network. The league is also active in social issues, and in 2020, the WNBA and WNB Players Association created the WNBA Justice Movement with the goal of becoming a driving force of necessary change in communities.
